H3X has been awarded a $1.9M TACFI contract with the United States Air Force to advance hybrid-electric powerplants for eVTOL aircraft in military operations. We’re excited to build on our successful Phase II work with AFWERX and continue our collaboration.
Electrified aircraft have the potential to provide the Air Force with a range of cost-effective crewed and uncrewed aircraft capable of performing new and valuable missions. These aircraft offer operational independence from traditional runways, increased maneuverability, and the ability to operate from decentralized bases.
Hybrid-electric propulsion systems, which combine an engine with an electric machine to generate electricity for propulsion, are now making it possible to harness the benefits of electric motors while also leveraging the superior energy density of liquid fuels. This architecture allows for greater range and endurance, while also eliminating the need for charging infrastructure in forward operating locations, further enhancing their operational utility. This ensures that electric aircraft can meet operational requirements for mission success while benefiting from the strengths of both technologies.
