The HPDG-12 is a high-power density turbogenerator system with a continuous electrical output power rating of 12 kW at a mass of only 10.7 kg. This system contains a microturbine and an HPDM-30 generator with integrated power electronics for AC-to-DC power conversion. The power conversion chain utilized is:
Liquid Fuel (Input) → Microturbine → HPDM-30 → HVDC (Output)
The HPDG-12 is a highly integrated, compact turbogenerator with a system level power density of 1.1 kW/kg and best-in-class specific fuel consumption of 1.28 kg/kW-hr (Jet-A). With 1 hour of Jet-A, it achieves an energy density of 460 Wh/kg - over twice that of lithium-ion batteries.
The HPDG-12 offers an adjustable DC output voltage range of 180-800 VDC via CAN, including the MIL-STD-704 compliant 270 VDC standard for aerospace applications.
The microturbine can be run on military-grade heavy fuels including JP1A, JP8, and JP10. These heavy fuels are highly preferred in defense applications due to their low volatility (makes storage very safe), high thermal stability, and resulting long shelf life of 30 years.
Fast transient response ensures stable operation and DC output voltage during rapid load changes, making the system ideal for dynamic applications where reliability and precision are critical. We have successfully tested up to 444 A/s.
